Community Connections
SECC’s Community Connections program helps newcomers to better get to know their new home by bringing people together to share information, meet new friends, and learn about their community and what it has to offer. SECC organizes opportunities for newcomers to experience local life through field trips, networking events and meet ‘n’ greets.
A special High School to Community Supports Transition Program helps over-age high school students move into young adulthood in the wider community. Through a targeted partnership and referral process with our local high schools, young adults review their goals and needs with a member of our Settlement Team and develop a personalized action plan to help them achieve their goals. Social and recreational get-togethers are held on a regular basis, as are informational workshops on various life skills and topics of interest
Another way we help to create a welcoming community is by championing cultural diversity. SECC offers a series of workshops aimed to foster cultural competency within individuals and the local business community. Workshops are customizable based on group size, needs and budget.
