Volunteer Opportunities

Explore a range of volunteer roles that suit your interests and schedule: 

  • Adult Day Program Assistant (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 9:00am – 3:30 pm): Play board and card games, do crafts and help serve snacks and lunch to seniors in a fun, social setting.
  • Board of Directors (Monthly): General board duties, including attending regular monthly meetings.
  • Coats for Kids Distribution Assistant (October – November only): Be involved in collecting, sorting and distributing coats and accessories to families during the annual Coats for Kids Campaign.
  • Friendly Visitor (Flexible): Visit with a lonely or isolated senior on a weekly or bi-weekly basis in their home or as part of an occasional social outing (i.e., restaurant, park, store, etc.)
  • Income Tax Clinic Tax Return Preparer (March – April only): Complete computerized income tax returns for low-income individuals and families.
  • Lend a Hand Seniors’ Home Helper – Flexible: Perform indoor housekeeping (vacuum, dust, clean kitchens and bathrooms) and/or outdoor home maintenance (shovel snow, rake leaves, mow lawns) for seniors.
  • Literacy & English Tutor (Flexible): Help adults learn English or improve their reading and writing skills in one-on-one settings. Must be fluent in English. 2 hours per week.
  • Meals on Wheels Delivery (Monday to Friday 10:30 am – 11:30 am): Deliver hot meals before noon hour to seniors and persons with disabilities living at home using your own personal vehicle.
  • Security Check Caller (Flexible): Call seniors or lonely, housebound persons at a pre-arranged time to help brighten their day and ensure they are safe.
  • Special Events Helper (As needed): Help out with a special event by selling tickets, collecting prizes or helping out at the event with set-up, clean-up, and registration.
  • Summer Camp Helper – Weekdays (July – August only): Assist staff to supervise elementary school-aged children during recreational activities, serve nutritious snacks, and ensure a safe and respectful environment. 
  • Teacher’s Aide & Tutor – Flexible: Help adults learn English or improve their reading and writing skills in one-on-one or small group settings. Must be fluent in English. 2-3 hours per week. 
  • Translator/Interpreter (As needed): Provide translation for persons whose first language is not English to help them complete forms or attend appointments.

How do I become a volunteer?

The first step in becoming a volunteer at SECC is to complete our Volunteer Application Form. From there you will be contacted to set up an appointment where you can review possible opportunities and learn about the required screening steps you’ll have to complete to become a volunteer for a specific position.

Most positions are based in and/or require duties be completed in the Leamington, Kingsville or Wheatley area unless otherwise stated.
