South Essex Community Council offers a range of supportive services for seniors designed to enhance quality of life, promote independence, and foster community connection. Our programs include Meals on Wheels, transportation assistance, social activities, and wellness support to help seniors stay active, engaged, and healthy. Whether you need help with daily tasks, a friendly face to connect with, or transportation to appointments, our dedicated team is here to support you. We’re committed to creating a safe, compassionate environment where seniors can thrive and enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle within their community.  

Lend a Hand Home Maintenance Program

The Lend a Hand program pairs volunteers with vulnerable seniors to provide practical assistance, helping them manage household tasks and stay independent at home. From light housekeeping to snow removal, volunteers make a meaningful impact on everyday living. 

Services Offered

  • Light Housekeeping: Light cleaning, laundry, and changing bed linens. 
  • Yard Work: Mowing, raking, and trimming to keep outdoor spaces neat. 
  • Snow Removal: Clearing snow for safe winter access. 
  • Garbage and Recycling: Assistance with bringing bins to and from the curb. 

Eligibility

  • Seniors aged 55+
  • Residents of Leamington, Kingsville, or Wheatley
  • Identified as a vulnerable senior through an assessment 

Meals on Wheels

Hot, nutritionally balanced meals are available Monday through Friday. SECC partners with Green Heart Kitchen to provide fresh and healthy meals to our clients. Most food allergies and sensitivities can be accommodated and texture modifications can be made upon request. Friendly volunteers deliver our meals providing a social contact and a check-in for those who live alone.

  • Meals: Four meal options are available including a standard, entrée, soup or frozen meal.
  • Delivery: Meals are delivered midday by volunteers who also provide a friendly check-in. 
  • Eligibility:  Available to seniors and persons with disabilities living in Leamington, Kingsville, and Wheatley. 
  • Cost: Meals are affordably priced, ensuring that every senior can access nutritious food.

Transportation

We provide reliable, affordable transportation to help you stay mobile and independent. Whether you need to get to medical appointments, go shopping, run errands, or visit with family and friends, our service makes getting around easy and stress-free. 

  • Destinations: Travel within Windsor-Essex County, including rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, social events, and volunteer opportunities. 
  • Service: Convenient, door-to-door transportation is available Monday to Friday within Leamington, Kingsville, and Wheatley, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Windsor. 
  • Cost: Affordable rates ensure access for all, with pricing based on travel distance.

Wellness & Social Visits

At South Essex Community Council, we provide essential support for seniors and individuals with disabilities, along with respite for caregivers.  

Our Adult Day Program offers a safe space for meaningful activities, socialization, and personalized care, promoting physical and mental well-being through arts, crafts, exercise, and music. Our trained staff create a supportive environment that fosters independence and community connection.  

  • Caregiver Support: Respite care and referral services to help caregivers focus on their well-being. 
  • Trained Staff: Experienced staff trained in Gentle Persuasive Approaches, Dementia-Friendly Communities, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. 
  • Meaningful Activities: Engaging recreational, social, and wellness activities tailored to individual needs. 
  • VON Exercise Sessions are offered every Wednesday from 1:30-2:30pm for free. 

Our Wellness Check-Ins and Social Visits,  provide companionship through phone calls and in-person visits, reducing isolation and offering peace of mind. 
 
These services not only enhance the quality of life for participants but also offer caregivers valuable time for personal needs, whether it’s for running errands, or attending appointments.
