Supporting the Well-Being of Children and Youth

SECC provides a number of programs for children and youth in our community. All programs include opportunities to make friends, volunteer, learn about different cultures, build academic skills, explore the “arts” and participate in sports and rec.

Camps

South Essex Community Council offers a variety of engaging camps for children in grades 1-8 throughout the year, providing fun, learning, and opportunities to connect with peers. Each camp takes place in a safe, inclusive environment where kids can make friends, develop new skills, and create lasting memories. All camps include arts and crafts, fieldtrips, sports, games and more. 

  • Summer Camp: July and August camp for kids looking for summer fun, activities and adventures. 
  • March Break Camp: An exciting week of activities to keep kids engaged during the school break. 
  • PA Day Camps: Fun-filled day camp program during school Professional Activity Days to keep kids engaged and having fun. 

Ignite Academy Grade 2-7

Ignite Academy is the first community-designed Cradle to Career solution from ProsperUs. Aimed to bolster literacy and math competencies, the program operates after school four days a week, targeting students from grades 2-7. 

  • Qualified Teachers: Help students meet provincial standards in math and literacy outside of school hours.
  • Mental Wellness Sessions: Provide regular, preventative support for mental health.
  • Social Workers: Connect families to community resources.
  • Culturally Appropriate Services: Offer multi-lingual services and information tailored to diverse needs.
  • Social Mentoring: Includes individual and group mentoring programs.
  • Recreational, Arts, and Cultural Enrichment: Enhance learning with diverse activities.
  • Parent Engagement: Provide opportunities for parents to get involved.

Youth Programs

SECC’s Youth Programs provide a supportive and inspiring environment for youth to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and prepare for the future. Through engaging activities and mentorship, participants can explore their potential and make meaningful connections. 

  • Activities: Includes team-building exercises, creative projects, leadership training, and discussions focused on personal growth. 
  • Community Engagement: Encourages youth to give back through volunteer opportunities and collaborative projects. 
  • Mentorship: Led by experienced facilitators who provide guidance, encouragement, and a positive role model for participants. 
  • Schedule: Weekly sessions during the school year, designed to complement academic and extracurricular schedules. 
  • Eligibility: Open to Junior Youth in grade 5 – 8  and Senior Youth, ages 14 – 24 residing in Windsor-Essex.
